½ Pop Rivet Kit for use with Tailgate Guards with feet
Important: Prior to fitting please read the following Instructions.
The fitting of a Barjo tailgate guard should only be carried out by a competent person i.e. Vehicle Mechanic. Barjo Engineering Limited cannot accept any responsibility for any damage incurred while fitting or from use of the tailgate guard. If the person fitting the tailgate guard has any doubt about the fitting, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our sales team on the above number during working hours. It is advised the fitter employs the help of an assistant while fitting the guard.
- The tailgate guard will be delivered with all the fittings required. Before starting the fitting please familiarise yourself with these parts. (See over leaf)
- With the vehicle tailgate guard open sit in the boot of the vehicle with the guard, instruct the assistant to close the vehicle tailgate. Locate the feet at the bottom of the guard between the spare wheel cover and the trim at the back of the car. Offer up the guard to the closed vehicle tailgate, leaving a clearance of approximately 25mm (1”) and make a note of the position of the vehicle trim. This will give the general position of the Barjo tailgate fitting position.
- The fitting kit is not supplied attached to the guard as even with similar vehicles the trim and wiring loom positions can vary. The general locations of the mountings are within the top 150mm (6”) of the side frame of the guard. Never fit mountings to the top frame into the roof area of the of the vehicle as this could create a hazard when the guard is removed.
- When the approximate fitting position is located ease back or remove the plastic trim in this area and check for possible damage that could occur to any wiring and ensure that you have double skin panels to screw into.
- The tailgate guard mountings fit behind the guard inside the vehicle. Locate and fit
part (C) the U clip over the frame between mesh wire and pre-determined mounting position and squeeze together the U clip (C) with mole grips as close to the frame as possible. Re-drill U clip (C) holes to 8mm (5/16”) as this will allow ease of fitting and removal. If required fit back adjusting nut (B) to the mounting plate (A) stud. Fit mounting plate (A) to the U clip (C) with the wing nut (D) and repeat this with the other mounting.
- Remove the tailgate guard door by opening and lifting from its hinges. Replace the guard into the vehicle and secure each fitting plate (A) with one pop rivet (E) only in predetermined fitting position. Care must be taken not to damage outer body skin. Use a 5mm drill bit to drill securing pop rivet holes. Carefully close vehicle tailgate and check clearance, ensuring there is no contact with the guard. The final adjustment can be made by swivelling the mounting plate then adjusting the back nuts.
- When satisfied with the position fit the second pop rivets (E) through the mounting plates (A) then replace the tailgate guard door. In the event that door locks do not align with the catches it is possible that there is too much tension in one of the plates. This will twist the frame out of alignment. Loosen wing nuts (D) and back nuts (B) & (D) and adjust. Remove excessive stud above the wing nut (D) and clean stud end with a fine file.
- Clean all drilling waste from the vehicle. Your Barjo tailgate guard is now ready for
use.
